A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers the entire visible portion of your tooth, improves its appearance, and restores its health. It also has the ability to:
- Protect a fragile tooth from breaking
- Restore a broken tooth
- Rejuvenate a tooth that has been worn down
- Support a tooth that has a large filling
- Make a cosmetic alteration
- Cover a dental implant
- Disguise a severely discolored tooth
In order to place a dental crown, we ask that you expect two visits to our practice. During the first visit, we will prepare the natural tooth to allow space for the crown. Then, we will take an impression of your tooth and send it to the dental lab where your crown will be fabricated. While we are waiting for your crown to come back from the lab, you will wear a temporary crown that we make in our office during the first appointment. When your crown is ready, you will come back to our office to have the crown placed. When the perfect fit is achieved, the crown will be permanently cemented into your mouth.
