Dr. Ney is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, an organization that includes dentists, physicians, psychologists and physical therapists that keeps its members up to date on headache, jaw and neck pain and sleep disorders.

In addition, Dr. Ney is a member of the American Headache Society, The American Migraine Foundation, International Headache Society, The Kentucky Sleep Society, A charter member (1986) of the American Association of Sleep Disorder Dentists, The Kentucky Dental Association, The American Dental Association.

Dr. Ney was on the forefront of integrating sleep disorders and chronic pain. He first introduced problems with sleep, like frequent awakenings or going to bed tired and awakening tired, to be vital in treating chronic headaches in 1985. It has only been in the last 2-3 years that pain and sleep have started to be mentioned together in the literature.

TMD/TMJ headaches and neck and jaw pain involve more then treating dental bite. While your bite is important, other areas such as disrupted sleep, weak neck muscles, posture, myofascial pain, fibromyalgia and oral habits should also be considered.

Having a clear understanding  all of these disciplines is vital to understanding why a patient has pain and knowing what to do about it. Headaches do not just have one cause...they have many causes

Because he himself suffered from headaches over a period of seven years, Dr. Ney understands the problem both as a patient and as a doctor. This is important because he knows how disrupting the pain can be to a patient’s lifestyle, relationships, and job.

According to the International headache Society 85% of all headache is muscle and a dentist trained in treating headache is the only discipline to address all of the factors that cause head and neck pain. Below and on the video, you will see how many muscles are in the face, head and neck.

On a personal level, Dr. Ney has three sons. Marsh, the oldest, is an MD with a specialty in treating spinal disorders
( he still calls his dad when he has a headache patient)!  His second son, William, graduated from Transylvania University and is now in his own business making high end custom tables. Robert, his third son, also graduated from Transylvania University and is now the top salesman with GenCanna in Winchester

Dr. Ney and his minister began the non-profit Saint Andrews Retirement Community in Richmond. Since then, St. Andrews has grown into a campus of 75 condominiums, 73 assisted living apartments, and a nursing home with 50 beds. The nursing home is one of only a handful of nursing homes to achieve and keep a 5 star rating since we opened in 1999.

No matter what his endeavors, Dr. Ney's goal is to succeed. In terms of headaches, he simply believes that you deserve to live, like Dr. Ney, pain-free and we can and will make that happen!
